We are reaching out to make sure you knew that housing authorities in your Continuum of Care (CoC) were awarded an allocation of Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHVs) through the American Rescue Plan Act. HUD is providing 70,000 housing choice vouchers to local Public Housing Authorities across the nation in order to assist individuals and families who are:
- At risk of homelessness;
- Fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking; or
- Were recently homeless or have a high risk of housing instability
Two VERY important things that directly relate to you and those you serve:
- MOU Required: HUD is requiring that PHAs enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with their local CoC to establish a partnership for the administration of the EHVs. The primary responsibility of the CoC under the MOU is to make direct referrals of qualifying individuals and families to the PHA.
- Deadline: Housing Authorities must respond to HUD’s notification – either accepting, denying or requesting to lower their allocation award of emergency housing vouchers – by May 24, 2021.
