Promoting the Increase of Accessible and Affordable Housing

Good Afternoon IHP Members and Friends:

Like many of you, Iowa Housing Partnership (“IHP”), and specifically myself, have faced an existence where one day easily fades into the next day, the lack of grasping of time has moved to corner, and the word urgency has taken a back seat. COVID has changed how we have done our jobs, and in the past, IHP and its members, learned about issues affecting Iowans through interactions such as conferences, speaking at events, etc. 2020 proved that not to be an efficient model.

During the most recent IHP Board meeting, increased member and partner interaction was identified as a top priority. Looking ahead to 2021, we discussed our 2021 Policy Agenda Items but most importantly, set up some Action Items for the 2021 year. Our next steps include:

Member relations: Starting in January, IHP will start conducting Zoom calls with our members and partners to learn more about what are the events that you are facing in your community and organization.
Advocacy: As the Iowa legislative approaches, we have been meeting (virtually) with key legislators about IHP legislative priorities. We will be more active in engagement and importantly, communicating with you more regularly on our interactions. To achieve that, we will be more proactive in getting the information from the state and the federal governments to you, so you will have more updated information that you can use in doing what you do for affordable housing.
Social Media: We have increased our presence on Facebook, Twitter, along with our website, and encourage you to actively follow the first two, and visit our website frequently.

Now this is only successful if all participate, so we urge all to consider participating in one form or another: Zoom calls, comments on Facebook, Twitter, etc. In the upcoming week, we will be announcing our 2021 Agenda along with our 2021 Action Items. Our organizational goal is to be the most active affordable housing organization in the Midwest, which is a lofty goal, but one we feel that not only can we meet, but should be doing.
